Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the educational attainment of the Peruvian population aged 25 and older, identifying the main differences by sex and territory, as well as the evolution of the urban-rural gap during the 2014–2024 period, in order to discuss its implications for strengthening human capital. Methodologically, the study adopted a quantitative approach, with a descriptive scope and a non-experimental design, using official statistical information from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), mainly from the National Household Survey (ENAHO). The results show that approximately one in three adults attained some level of higher education, while significant territorial differences in average years of schooling persist. Likewise, the urban-rural gap decreased from 3.9 years in 2014 to 3.2 years in 2024, although it remains substantial. It is concluded that, despite the educational progress achieved, territorial and urban-rural inequalities persist, limiting the equitable distribution of educational opportunities. Therefore, strengthening human capital requires both raising educational attainment and reducing existing territorial disparities.
