Abstract

This study aimed to determine the relationship between AI use and the academic performance of university students in Santa Elena, Ecuador. The methodology employed was quantitative, applied, descriptive, non-experimental, and correlational, with a sample size of 80 students. The results show that over 50% of the students interviewed reported a high level of AI use and high academic performance. Furthermore, a strong positive correlation of 0.870 was found between AI and academic performance, as well as a strong positive correlation of 0.740 between AI and cognitive performance, and a strong positive correlation of 0.720 between AI and affective and emotional performance. A significance level of 0.05 was found, suggesting that increased use of AI tools tends to improve students' affective and emotional performance. A strong positive correlation of 0.736 was also found between AI use and academic skills performance. The findings indicate that artificial intelligence could be a significant resource for improving educational processes in higher education, given that its application must be carried out in an educational context that fosters the capacity for reflective self-analysis and the growth of digital skills in students.
